“Two-thirds of the word God is go...”  I was struck by this comment made at the Bishop’s Convocation by Dr. Lenard Sweet, the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism of Drew Theological School.

God has been on a mission since well… the beginning: from creation to establishing a covenant with Israel, speaking with the prophets to the sending of Jesus, calling the disciples to calling us today. God is certainly on the mission of calling all of creation into a fuller relationship with the Lord.

Jesus calls us to be on the move with the Great Commission, “Go and make disciples of all nations.”  Also, he points us out towards ministry in his world in saying, “As the Father sent me, I am sending you.”[1] Christ gathers us as the church and then sends us into the world. Let us be honored to be servants of God’s mission!  Our call to be agents of God’s living word in ministry and mission, got me thinking, “How are we, Dingmans Ferry United Methodist Church, ‘on the go’ for God?” Meaning, “How are we living as sent people on the mission for Christ in the world?”

I am certain God is on the move and so are we! Our youth group is mobilizing a youth service team to the mission opportunity called Mission 101. Three of our young people will make the pilgrimage to Taize, France. There they will be in a prayer community with 5,000 other Christians from around the world and celebrate the Spirit of God through service, worship and Bible study. We are preparing for this year’s Bread for the World anti-hunger campaign, where we will be a voice for the hungry in the US and abroad. Our faithful nursing home ministry team is sent out every week as servants at Milford Senior Care and Belle Reve. Some of our congregants are leading and others are attending the faith sharing retreat The Walk to Emmaus. And our missions committee is always up to something, praise God!

The nature of God is to be in mission with God’s world. And in all of our ministry—worship, Bible studies, prayer services, fellowship, mission projects and more—let us remember to give the glory and praise to God. We are servants not on our own but by the gift of God’s grace given to us through the working of God’s power.[2]
