During the second week of July, six benches were installed in the developing P&MG Chapel. Following assembly of the benches by Art Birtner and Ray Constanza, Ray assisted in the installation of the benches. Special thanks to Art and Ray for all their hard and exacting work! Quikrete was used to anchor the benches firmly in the ground. As with similar benches in the adjacent Prayer Circle, the seating surfaces are made with a durable, ‘composite’ material that will be splinter-free, withstand harsh weather conditions, and require minimal maintenance. Following painting of the wooden support members of the benches, bench end-plates will be affixed to them that will each feature a verse from the hymn, “For the Beauty of the Earth.” The Chapel Benches will seat some 20 individuals who may be expected to gather in the Chapel for worship, youth, and music programs. Be looking for other features of the Chapel to be added in the weeks ahead. APPEAL NOTE: To this date, donors have generously subsidized the cost of four (4) of the Chapel benches. The end-plate verses for the two remaining benches will read: “For the joy of ear and eye, for the heart and mind’s delight . . . “ AND “For the church that evermore lifteth holy hands above . . . “
